“Behind me is the infinite power, before me is endless possibility, around me is boundless opportunity.”
It was great opportunity for me to participate in document and review of Sathi Sanga Manka Kura radio program workshop organized by Equal Access with the grant of UNICEF.  I got to interact with people from diverse field such as adolescents, youth radio producers, donors and government stakeholders and youth organizations from different part of country. This workshop was to design  contents for the Behavior Change Communication to create awareness among adolescents and youths about their various concurrent issues.
We had discussed about various issues which might be the factors affecting child protection. I heard about the stories of Girls in terai region from a government official who used to work in District Women and Children Department office where girls were so gullible that they can give consent to the boys to have sex in the name of a dozen of bangles. The situation is really poor that the people get their child married at the age of 14.Though there is large scale of mass awareness program for providing information to the people about the negative consequences of child marriage and providing priority for girls education, people are still ignorant for bringing change in their community.

Even though the government official give effort to stop child marriage at the site in front of every visitors and also there is law that, in case of child marriage, the couples are not entertained with marriage certificate, though this leads to exploitation of child rights, the marriage can be only postponed in such places, however, people don’t delay the marriage and the guardian migrate to India, as they doesn’t have the authority for taking the strict actions.

There was discussion on LGBTI issues of the country where the transgender people have been working for marriage equality and inclusion of such people in any settings like: workplace, including them in different sectors free of discrimination and stigma along with acceptance in their family and community.

Also I was really interested to hear about risk factors for childhood obesity where there is increase in intake of trans fat which has been influenced by the advertisements and increasing establishment of the restaurants and fast food shops. This has led to the sedentary lifestyles among the adolescents and youths. For this promotion of home made food should be in mainstream.

Meanwhile during the workshop I met various young people from child clubs and disability friendly school whom I found really ambitious and focused towards their life. I was really optimistic about the development of the country though there is increased foreign employment and braindrain. I got to learn from them to become critical and humble for whatever the reason.

I would like to thank  organizing committee and YUWA who gave me opportunity not only to explore more and know the insights about my country’ issues but also increase my networks around the country.
